Tank-Weld donates $6.3m to NERHA for ambulance
TANK-WELD Metals recently handed over a cheque for $6.3 million to North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) to be used to acquire an ambulance for the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.
The money is to be used to purchase a Toyota Hiace van which will be retrofitted for use as an ambulance.
Marianne Greaves, co-inventory manager at Tank-Weld, handed over the cheque to Tyrone Robinson, chairman of NERHA in the presence of several other representatives from the regional body.
Robinson expressed appreciation for the donation and said the ambulance is well-needed as the region was in short supply of the vehicles.
COMMENDATION
Robinson had special words of commendation for Tank-Weld chairman, Chris Bicknell, who he said spearheaded the effort.
Regional director for NERHA, Fabia Lamm, was also delighted with the contribution. According to her, one of the shortfalls at the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital was the inability to move patients on a timely basis, adding that the hospital needs at least three more ambulances, estimating that each cost in the region of $12 million.
Greaves said St Ann plays a vital role in the development of Jamaica, and as such, Tank-Weld was happy to assist. She noted that both entities have partnered in the past and says she is looking forward to a continuing of the relationship.
