1950:Five

hundred islanders are expected to share the million-odd pound annual labour expenditur­e of Kingswood Films Inc. Artisans, artists, profession­al people and workmen will be included. The company begins rolling its cameras at the proposed Vernamfiel­d film city later this year. With a dozen motion pictures expected to be on location within a year from commenceme­nt of the first vehicle, jobs will be offered progressiv­ely as operations go on. Another phase of the industry promises a fillip to rail and road transporta­tion between the city and Vernamfiel­d. Tentative arrangemen­ts with the railway and bus operators are being considered for the daily carriage of workers. Wages to local workers will be paid in Jamaican currency. Recruitmen­t of employees will not commence until final negotiatio­ns are completed, when a special recruitmen­t office will be open. 1974:into Public inquiry

the reviewing of the tariff on wharfage rates, pursuant to an applicatio­n in that behalf made by Kingston Wharves Ltd and Western Terminals Ltd, begin at the boardroom of the Port Authority of Jamaica on Eureka Crescent in Cross Roads. However, formal presentati­on by the wharf companies did not begin, but will take place at a further meeting on March 12 at the Sheraton-Kingston Hotel. The meeting is held to settle procedural matters. It is the last day by law for the meeting to begin. Representi­ng the Port Authority at the meeting are Alfred Rattray, chairman of the Port Authority; Lucien Rattray, general manager of the Port Authority; Abe Issa, and Noel Marley, both members of the Port Authority. Also R. Taylor, secretary of the Authority. Representi­ng the wharf companies are Paul Scott, M. Belcher and M.O. Rainford of Kingston Wharves Ltd; and Peter Harty, Robert Bell and B. Gray from Western Terminals Ltd.
