for the fishing industry, which was not carried through completely in 1955 because of hurricane Janet in September, will be completed this year. A spokesman for the Ministry of Agricultur­e says that the programme had to be delayed as the Fisheries Division and its staff was engaged in relief measures. However, four things are marked for special emphasis this year. One, the drive for mechanisat­ion of the industry; two, training of fishermen in new fishing methods and techniques; three, the continuati­on of experiment­s in freshwater culture; four, an investigat­ion into the lobster potentiali­ty of Jamaican waters. 1981:workers The strike by

employed by the Airports Authority of Jamaica at the island’s two internatio­nal airports is called off after an agreement is reached for the start of wage negotiatio­ns for which the workers had taken the industrial action. Workers in the Airport Protection Services (rescue operations) are scheduled to resume work at 11 p.m. The others workers will resume on April 25. The categories involved are fire engineerin­g unit, maintenanc­e and janitorial services. They are represente­d by the Trade Union Congress. Under the agreement worked out at the Ministry of Labour, a committee of the board of directors of the Airports Authority will meet with representa­tives of the union to begin negotiatio­ns on Friday, May 1. At that meeting also, the board will disclose new policies it is formulatin­g to make the authority viable.
