‘Maneater’ to miss Oaks

DaCosta keeping fingers crossed for June’s Derby

WAYNE DACOSTA yesterday confirmed his super filly, SHE’S A MANEATER, as a noshow for Saturday’s Jamaica Oaks, saying she pulled a muscle while exercising last Sunday morning and won’t line up in the 10-furlong race.

A winner of six races from seven starts, including the 1000 Guineas two-and-a-half weeks ago, SHE’S A MANEATER, is widely considered the best three-yearold in training.

The filly’s setback, DaCosta said, could also cause her to miss June’s Jamaica Derby if she doesn’t recover in time.

“She pulled a muscle in her back end, her hind quarters. It’s not bad but we’re not taking any chances,” he said.

“Once you miss a beat in the three-year-old classics, it is always a setback. She now has it all to do to catch the derby.

“Maybe she won’t catch the derby and we go to the St Leger after. We’ll see where it goes from here,” he added.

INJURY NOT BAD

The champion trainer, however, remains hopeful, noting that the injury doesn’t seem all that bad.

“It’s all left to her, how fast she recovers, horses differ. All I can say, it’s not bad because she is walking very sound, “he added.

Despite missing the Oaks, SHE’S A MANEATER, remains on course for a shot at the Triple Crown, along with stablemate FEARLESS SAMURAI, the 2000 Guineas winner.
