1971:proposals A seminar to study for staggering school and working hours in the Corporate Area will be held at the Sheraton Kingston Hotel on May 6 and May 7. The seminar is being arranged under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Utilities and Housing. Over 30 organisati­ons, including a number of other ministries of Government, will take part, and in some instances, memoranda have been submitted, setting out the views of the organisati­ons concerned. Memoranda and replies received are compiled in booklet form and circulated to the organisati­ons invited to take part. 1987:clean-up The Cris ‘n’ Clean campaign aimed at encouragin­g the involvemen­t of students of primary and all-age schools to develop positive attitudes towards the environmen­t and their personal cleanlines­s is launched by Prime Minister Edward Seaga at the Dunrobin Primary School. The campaign is a pilot project in the Corporate Area and St Catherine, involving the use of a giant stuffed parrot created by the Jamaica Informatio­n Service (JIS) for the project and named Mr Cris ‘n’ Clean. He is expected to visit schools in those areas to form Cris ‘n’ Clean clubs. There will also be a Saturday-morning radio programme and school competitio­ns.

Currently, the project involves some 102 primary and all-age schools with approximat­ely 92,00O students between six and 15 years old in the Corporate Area, as well as similar schools in Portmore and Spanish Town. It is expected to be expanded eventually, to cover the entire island.
