Mandeville focus for World Blood Donor Day

-

ON WEDNESDAY, June 14, the annual World Blood Donor Day will be marked by events around the world to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood components, and to thank all voluntary donors for their saving gift of blood.

This year’s campaign focuses on blood donation in emergencies such as natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, storms and manmade disasters. The latter is inclusive of accidents and armed conflicts, which also generate substantial health-care demands and the need for front-line treatment. Preparation for these emergencies is in conjunction with the disaster management plan for the country, especially with the upcoming hurricane season.

With the natural response in emergency situations being ‘What can I do? How can I help?’ the slogan for the 2017 campaign is ‘What can you do? Give Blood, Give Now, Give Often’.
