Grooming tips for new dads

- jody-anne.lawrence@gleanerjmcom

BECOMING A father does not have to kill your ‘swagger’. In fact, in some ways it improves it. You might need to make a few adjustments to your wardrobe or your grooming routine, so see how these tips might work in your favour. Plus, nothing makes you feel like a better man than holding your baby boy or girl in your arms for the first time. You instantly become a different man – you are a dad.

LET’S START WITH YOUR FACE

Facial hair is something that has become a trend for men, and nothing is wrong with it. In fact, it can be quite sexy. The one problem is that after it gets to a certain length, this can be bothersome to both you and the child. You have to bear in mind when snuggling that it might scratch them, and that after four or five months when they start learning to hold things, your beard will make it to the top of the list of things they pull on, like their mother’s hair. It will be painful, so you may want to trim it a bit, until they are two years old.

NECKTIE TO BOW TIE

A necktie is attractive even with the suit but you might suffer from the above. So going for a bow tie instead will be perfect. Plus, you have to admit you can play around with bow ties a little bit more, and they are a bit sexier than the normal necktie.

NO WHITE

A plain, white T and denim for those laid-back days is something people write songs about. That relaxed look is effortless and attractive, but it is not ‘mess friendly’, and you know that on a family outing you will be touched with some form of sticky fingers, and I’m sure you will not want your shirt reflecting everything your child ate or touched that day. So it is best to avoid the white. Replacing the white with black or any other dark colour would be a better picture. Just retire the whites for a few years. Plus, you might understand why women love black. But it will look equally as good on you.

COLOGNE

Yes, a man who smells good is something that every woman loves and appreciates. But while this is the case, an overpowering scent is a no-no, especially when you have a child. If you already use a mild fragrance or have allergies that prevent you from wearing strong colognes, this is not for you. But you can tell when your cologne might affect your sinuses and just be careful. The little ones are fragile. Do not make them sick.

Overall, just be comfortable. You will need to, in order to run behind these little treasures. Maybe get in the best shape of your life.
