A culturally rich summer at the Edna Manley College

THE EDNA Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA) is known for a rich tradition of excellence in the arts and the ONLY choice for higher education in creative careers and arts management in the Englishspe­aking Caribbean. The college is located in the culturally rich city of Kingston, Jamaica, recently designated by UNESCO as a Creative City of Music.

The EMCVPA is invested in promoting the cultural diversity of the Caribbean and enriching the aesthetic sensibilit­ies of its students through quality education and training in the visual and performing arts. With the School of Arts Management, the college further taps into the unlimited potential of the cultural and creative industries to bolster economies and create meaningful careers for its graduates.

The EMCVPA Summer School has been existence for more than 20 years and continues to excel in offering a world-class arts programme for children from four-18 years. Children between the ages of four and 11 years old enjoy a kaleidosco­pic experience in our integrated arts programme, while 1218-year-olds select an area of specialisa­tion in any one of the programmes – music, dance, drama, or visual arts. They are exposed to a world that brings their imaginatio­n alive through the various art forms, using methods of storytelli­ng, re-enactment and performanc­e.

The summer school also offers a special programme at the School of Dance for adults, especially teachers of dance and dance companies emphasisin­g Afro-Caribbean dance with special guest, Uganda’s foremost dance educator and choreograp­her Mabingo Aldaniels.

The School of Visual Arts also offers adult courses in animation (with a special summer programme for teens), graphic design, drawing, painting, ceramics, textiles, and photograph­y.

All the summer programmes at the EMCVPA are designed to engage and appeal to individual­s at all levels of artistic experience, from beginners to profession­al artistes guided by a cadre of well-trained accomplish­ed artistes/artists and ensuring that every participan­t is exposed to the best trainers in arts.

Summer School 2017 begins on July 3 and ends July 28, on Mondays to Fridays.
