THIS DAY IN OUR PAST
The following events took place on June 13 in the years identified:
1978:Parliamentarians
Fifty-five fail to furnish statutory declarations of assets and liabilities by the March 31, 1977 deadline and eight are still outstanding at December 31, 1977. This is disclosed in the Integrity Commission appointed under the Parliament (Integrity of Members) Act for 1977, which is tabled in the House of Representatives. Under the provisions of the Act, parliamentarians are required to furnish their statutory declarations as at December 31, 1976 by March 31, 1977; but 55 of them fail to meet the deadline the report says. The report says also that during the year, the court ruled in favour of the commission’s right to examine bank accounts of a parliamentarian’s spouse at specific dates. 1991:replaces Walter Boyd
agonising groans with shouts of joy when he put Jamaica level against Italian League club Pisa, in their friendly football game at the National Stadium. Boyd’s 83rd minute strike cancels a 44th minute goal by Marco Ferrante, and preserve the local team’s unbeaten run, which now stands at 21. Jamaica, preparing for the inaugural eightteam CONCACAF Gold Cup competition in Los Angeles later this month, are upstaged by their European foes, who had possession of the ball for most of the match. “We saw a very good game from the Jamaican team. They show the kind of character and discipline that has been the hallmark of this team. This game will do a lot of good for the players and we will go on to do better from now on,” Carl Brown, Jamaica’s coach says.
