The UTech Academy provides relevant, customised training
THE UTECH Academy is engaged in the provision of innovative and expanded access to learning; the stimulation of economic and societal growth through community capacity building; and the provision of access to both local and international students.
Education and national development are inextricably linked. The building of a culture of higher education among Jamaican highschool students is an important national imperative and the UTech, Jamaica Academy is organised to meet these needs in contributing to Jamaica’s social and economic growth.
The academy provides relevant and customised training to high-school students in preparation for matriculation. In addition, it collaborates and partners with community agencies, organisations and individuals to develop and deliver programmes that respond to local needs.
From its sites in Kingston, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, the UTech, Ja Academy prepares eligible individuals, particularly school leavers, to matriculate to the UTech Ja faculties through the provision of preuniversity courses; manages the preliminary courses required for each faculty; provides opportunities for personal and professional educational development through continuing education programmes; responds to the training and developmental needs of corporate entities. The Academy offers an associate degree in business administration and diploma-level courses of study in management studies and human resource management. Additionally, the academy will collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information to offer three occupational associate degrees beginning in September 2017.
