- Latara Boodie Gleaner Writer

ON FRIDAY, August 28, Silver Star Motors unveiled a refreshed, made-over model of the popular crossover SUV, Mercedes-Benz GLA. The GLA was already an impressive and powerful vehicle. However, with its new design and engine updates the 2018 GLA is sure to stun in appearance and performance, and is now available in Jamaica.

“What do you do to an almost perfect vehicle?” asked Darryl Norris, service manager at Silver Star Motors, local dealers for Mercedes-Benz.

“You bring it closer to perfection,” Norris said, adding that no other vehicle in the GLA class offers a larger selection of engines, and that Mercedes-Benz boasts “the broadest range of SUV models across all premium European manufacturers”.

The launch was hosted by Dr Sara Lawrence who showcased some of the design enhancements of the 2018 GLA which include optional LED high performance headlamps that turn night into day; a sexier front and rear end which include fog lights; and new wheel designs. The 2018 GLA AMG model also features air intakes and all models can come equipped with brake lights and indicators that are controlled in three intensities.

A restyled interior featuring a now-standard eight-inch information display, rear-view camera with optional 360-degree view, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, proximity/keyless entry, keyless ignition round out the refreshed design enhancements on the 2018 GLA.

Performance-wise, the GLA is powered by a 2.0-litre fourcylinder turbocharged engine that produces 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The GLA 180 variant is the efficiency champion of its segment with a 122 hp and 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic engine.

The sportily designed GLA is known for its refined driving experience, great handling, and the extensive range of options available for individualisation and customisation. Introduced to the world in 2013, the model has since gone on to explode in popularity in the US, UK, Germany and China all the while collecting multiple performance, safety and consumer awards.

The starting price for the GLA is $7,995,000.
