Dr Gail-Ann Allen: A passion for orthodontics
WI TH HER regular contributions to The Gleaner, The Jamaica Observer, The STAR and numerous appearance son local radio programmes, Dr Gail-Ann Allen has consistently carved out her own niche within the Islandsmiles family. A graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Dr Allen first earned an associate’s degree in applied science and biological studies at Essex County College in New Jersey. She immediately excelled in the United States university system, graduating with honours from Essex, and summa cum
laude with a degree in biological sciences from the prestigious Rutgers University.
Upon graduation, she remained in New Jersey and went to the New Jersey Dental School to become a doctor of dental medicine. For the next year, Dr Allen would add to her extensive education with a year-long general practice residency at the New Jersey Dental School. Eventually, her time in the Garden State had to come to an end, and she ventured across the bridge to Saint Barnabas Hospital in New York to explore a passion for orthodontics. Having lived in both New York and New Jersey, Dr Allen practised as an orthodontist in both states. Yet, the call to come home was too strong to resist, and she returned to Jamaica and joined Islandsmiles in 2005.
Dr Allen is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists, as well as the Jamaica Dental Association (JDA), and served as the JDA’s treasurer from 2010-2014, and a member of the JDA’s Oral Health Committee from 2010-2014.
