Trunk Treasure: Pieces of me BYCHARI

- Krysta Anderson LIFESTYLE WRITER

ISLAND LUXURY, a line of simple, sexy and timeless pieces layered, stacked, mixed or matched to stylish perfection. That is the essence of BYCHARI. Stylish women made their way to the loft of Cellar 8 recently to indulge in a little bubbly and a lot of beautiful jewellery, courtesy of BYCHARI who showcased her ‘celeb’ favourite-line for the first time in Jamaica.

The Jamaica-born LA-based designer, Chari Cuthbert, the woman behind BYCHARI, has been featured in publications like Elle and In-Style. She brought her signature pieces to our green shores, which not only ring true to her Jamaican roots, but are also influenced by her international adventures.

The fashion photography graduate from the Art Institute revealed that her company came into being by accident, bearing fruit from what she saw as a hobby. At first, she confessed, she had no idea what she was doing. After building a website, the orders slowly poured in, so she had to figure it out as she went along, “When I started the line in Hawaii, I approached it with strong marketing techniques and built my following and customer base on Instagram. I have loyal, repeat customers, and we strive to make everyone who interacts with the brand feel like family,” Cuthbert told Outlook.

TARGET AUDIENCES

At the moment, her target audiences are young professionals and mothers, “The Jamaica necklace has been extremely popular as well as the Mei, pipeline and cuff bracelets. But our bestsellers are our custom-spaced letter necklace. Clients love the idea of creating something unique for themselves, and I love hearing every story behind their pieces.”

Cuthbert has her personal pieces which she holds dear to her heart, but what she truly admires about BYCHARI are the women behind the accessories – strong, creative, hardworking businesswomen or entrepreneurs who have been and continue to be her inspiration.

The turnout at the trunk show, she revealed, was beyond her expectation and she could not be more thankful for those who came out to support her, “I also have to thank Cellar 8 for being a great host!”

Though BYCHARI has done well not just locally, but internationally, getting orders from all around the world, Cuthbert would love to focus on having a greater presence by doing more trunk shows. “We have a trunk show coming up in Sydney, Australia, with @abikiniaday and we’re continuing to create more unique custom [designs] and a line of one-of-akind pieces.”
