STATHS overtake JC in Group B
FORMER CHAMPIONS St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) have taken over sole leadership Group B in the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup competition, following their 3-0 victory over Papine yesterday.
STATHS were led to victory courtesy of a brace from Jevany Johnson. Mark Chambers was their other scorer.
In the group’s other game, defending champions Jamaica College (JC) were held to an exciting 2-2 draw at home by Bridgeport.
STATHS leads the group with 18 points, two ahead of JC while Bridgeport are third on 13 points.
JC led 2-0 at half time, through goals from Tevin Rochester in the ninth minute, and Tyreek Magee 42nd minute.
However, Bridgeport fought their way back into the match in the second half, courtesy of goals from Shahiam Edmonson in the 70th minute and captain Kyle Ming in the 78th minute.
JC ended the match with 10 players after captain Malik Howell was sent off after picking up a second yellow card in the 56th minute.
Miguel Coley, JC’s head coach, said he was very dissatisfied with his team’s performance.
“It is always disappointing when you are leading 2-0 and you allow the other team back into the game,” said Coley.
“But it is always tough playing with 10 men because we are not defending the set pieces properly, and we gave up two goals by the way of set pieces,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bridgeport head coach Garnet Lawrence said he was pleased with his team’s performance.
“The draw was good enough for us because it is a point away from home,” said Lawrence.
“Playing away to JC was always going to be a tough game, but my players stuck to the game plan, especially in the second half, so we were able to get a draw,” Lawrence said.
