McCallum set for 4-month family break

St James won 3-0. HE HAS just come out of retirement this season, but Richard ‘Spoon’ McCallum is set to leave Waterhouse for four months again due to a “family emergency”.
McCallum, who had retired two years ago, then returned in goal on October 8 against reigning champions Arnett Gardens, plans to leave after next Monday’s game against Cavalier in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).
“I will be leaving after the game next Monday due to family emergency and will be away in the United States for four months,” McCallum told The Gleaner yesterday morning. McCallum did not wish to go into further details. The goalkeeper, who is also Waterhouse’s general secretary, a position he took up two years ago, said that he will not resign from the post.
“The position will not be vacant as I will remain the club’s general secretary. But other persons will be coordinating the post,” McCallum explained.
PRICELESS COMMITMENT
McCallum, who has been at Waterhouse since 2004, said that the club has done a lot for him as a player and as a person.
“I have a priceless commitment to Waterhouse. The club has done a lot for me, and I am grateful for the opportunity and support from the community,” he added.
Before Waterhouse, the goalkeeper represented Seba, Wadadah and Invaders United in western Jamaica. He also played for Jamaica at the Under-17, Under-20, Under-23 and senior levels.
