Four get honorary degrees from UWI, Mona
A FOCUS on education and beautifying the passage from Ocho Rios, St Ann, to Kingston are among the areas to be emphasised by accomplished businessman, Antony Keith Edmund Hart, who was yesterday conferred with an Honorary degree of Doctor of Laws at one of two University of the West Indies’ graduation ceremonies held at the Mona campus yesterday.
Hart said that it was an extreme honour to be recognised by the university for any success he had achieved.
“I went to university for three months and this is my third degree,” he said to an outburst of laughter.
“This is an anomaly, however, as studies show that 76 per cent of successful people went to a university. I was also mentored by people all my life in every single thing I’ve done,” said Hart, who indicated that giving back to Jamaica is a huge part of his life.
“I have two primary schools that I love very much and want to see succeed. The last thing I want to do is beautify the passage from Ocho Rios to Kingston; it is about 30 miles,” said Hart, who was one of four persons awarded honorary degrees over the 2017 graduation exercise which was done in four sections.
The Honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) was conferred on Professor Emeritus John Edward Greene, the Honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt) was conferred on Olive Marjorie Senior, and Wesly Hall was conferred with the Honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD).
