You’re too shy to flirt

- Mickella Anderson YOUTHLINK WRITER

The text: “Hey, I didn’t catch the homework today in English class – help me out?”

BELIEVE IT or not, some of the best relationships stem from a hopeless crush, just like the one you’re probably experiencing right now. We know, getting your crush’s attention can be especially difficult when you’re just not that great at flirting. Not to worry, with just your cell phone and the right texts, there are ways to get past that awkward ‘I like you, do you like me?’ phase and into something a bit more serious.

1. The reminiscer

Recalling an old conversation that really had you both going may just create a moment so you guys can (finally) take it a step further. If it worked once, it can work again, right? The text: “Hey, I finally checked out that YouTube channel you were telling me about ... you were so right – I’m addicted!”

2. See you later

showing interest the Sometimes ball in can an your put court. If there’s something coming up that your crush may be attending, show that you’re interested in seeing him or her there, if you’re too scared to come out and say, “Go with me”. The text: “Everybody is going to YVA’s tomorrow – you better be there!”

3.What’s the assignment?

This one’s a classic – get the homework from your crush in the class then keep the conversation going. Discussing the homework will actually give you guys something to talk about and doesn’t make you seem like an awkward stalker or anything like that. Just don’t go from homework to longterm life goals in one night. Keep it light.

4.You ran through my mind

You know how Jamaicans say “Mi mind jus’ run pon yuh” and suddenly it’s a conversation? That’s always the way to get someone’s attention, because people just want to know what you’re thinking about them. When it comes to that awesome guy/girl you’ve been ‘feeling’, reference something like a joke you guys shared and use it to strike up a ‘convo’.

The text: “Just saw that Metro with the blue and white tint and thought of you. LOL.”

5. The weekenders

Texting your crush outside of Monday to Friday is a sure way to send the message that this isn’t just another classmate friendship. Deliberately hit him/her up on the weekend and show your ‘Saturday side’. Bonus tip: ask him/her out without actually asking him/her out.

6. Just say it!

Bruh, it’s a text – you don’t have a reason to be too shy to say how you feel! Dropping hints is cool and

The text: “Bored at home. What you up to for today?” all, but sometimes you’ve got to just come right out and say it. I mean, you never know until you try, right?

The text: “Big and serious: can’t stop thinking about you.”
