Seprod Foundation covers tuition for 32 students
THIRTY-TWO students at the high-school and tertiary-levels will have their tuition fees covered by the Seprod Foundation.
Melanie Subratie, director of the foundation, said this was in continuation of the foundation’s sponsorship efforts over the years. For the past 19 years, Seprod has invested more than $36 million in scholarships.
The scholarship awardees, who are children of employees of the Seprod Group of Companies, include Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) winners who have entered high schools, as well as students at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE).
FACILITATING INTERNSHIPS
Seprod not only supports the CASE students in the pursuit of their studies in the agricultural sciences, but also facilitates their internship at its dairy and farming operations during the period of their studies.
In addition, this year the foundation presented special scholarships in honour of former executives of the group: the Byron Thompson Award for academic achievement; and the Dr Richard Jones Scholarship for veterinary medicine. “I want to encourage more young Jamaicans to study veterinary science, starting at the high-school level, as it is an interesting field, especially for those who love animals,” Subratie said.
“Currently, it is challenging to find a pool of students in this area from which we can select a candidate for that scholarship, but we are pleased with the cadre of the overall scholarships winners who, we believe, have great potential to achieve at the highest level,” she added.
