DomRep leader arrives for state visit

DANILO MEDINA Sánchez, president of the Dominican Republic, is expected to arrive in the island today at approximat­ely 10 a.m. for a two-day state visit.

The visit will see him making a number of appearance­s, beginning with a floral tribute at the National Heroes Park in Kingston.

He will make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Andrew Holness at the Office of the Prime Minister, where the two will exchange gifts before delving into a meeting on bilateral, regional, and multilater­al issues.

Sánchez will then go to King’s House, where he will confer a Dominican Republic state honour on Holness. Governor General Sir Patrick Allen will confer the Order of Excellence on Sánchez. Following this, he will participat­e in a state luncheon at King’s House.

A visit is also scheduled for the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, where Sánchez will meet with José Tomás Ares, ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Jamaica, following which, he will pay a courtesy call on Leader of the Opposition Dr Peter Phillips at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

On Tuesday, Sánchez will attend the opening ceremony of the United Nations World Tourism Organisati­on Conference at the Montego Bay Convention Conference, St James.

A luncheon, hosted by Holness, will follow. Later in the evening, Sánchez will deliver the keynote address at the gala dinner and awards ceremony.

He will then leave Jamaica via the Sangster Internatio­nal Airport.
