Mackison eyes US Collegiate system
KINGSTON COLLEGE’S (KC) prolific goal scorer Rashawn Mackison has now set his sights on the United States collegiate circuit following his outstanding performance in this year’s ISSA-FLOW football competitions.
The 18-year-old Mackison ended his high-school career with a bang on Saturday when he netted a hat-trick in KC’s 3-0 victory over St Elizabeth Technical High School in the final of the ISSA-FLOW Super Cup at Sabina Park.
The victory gave the Purples their first hold on the title – joining the likes of Jamaica College, St George’s College, and Wolmer’s Boys as winners of the trophy – since its inception four years ago.
GREAT FEELING
Mackison’s exploits on Saturday earned him the Golden Boot award, as he ended the competition with six goals.
“It’s a great feeling to be the leading goal scorer in this competition, because before I took the pitch today, I knew that
I would have scored three goals as I said, ‘I need to win this leading goal scorer award’,” Mackison said.
“It is an emotional feeling leaving the college, but I just have to move on. KC taught me a lot about life,” he said.
The skilful striker was also the top scorer in this year’s Manning Cup competition, with 25 goals.
However, despite his efforts,
KC failed to reach the final of that tournament after they were beaten 2-1 by St Andrew Technical in the semi-final last Wednesday at the National Stadium.
KC were also dethroned of their Walker Cup Knockout title when they were beaten 2-1 in the final by rivals Jamaica College earlier this month.
Mackison said it was somewhat of a disappointing season for him this year but that he is now focused on earning an overseas scholarship.
“It was not a great season because I wanted to win the Manning Cup, but, unfortunately, it didn’t happen,” Mackison said.
“I am looking in the college direction because I always believe in myself, and winning this award will get me that extra push to go overseas and do well,” he said.
