Sandals growing in confidence

SANDALS SOUTH Coast FC team manager André Palmer said that he hopes the team’s players have learnt from their experience in the first round of the Red Stripe Premier League. Sandals, who are in their first-ever top-flight season, found themselves at the bottom of the 12-team table at the end of the first round. Their lone victory was a 1-0 result against Boys’ Town FC, who they beat by the same scoreline at the start of Round 2 yesterday at the Frome Complex. Palmer said that if the team could finish the chances they have been creating lately, they would be well intact to better their first-round performance. “The team is growing in confidence,” he said. “The players just weren’t confident, but we are working on them one on one to get that confidence in, and as you can see, we are starting to move forward in that aspect.

“We needed it as we had to win this one if we are to have a chance in the Premier League. We have to now make a decision as to where we go from today’s game as this is the second round and we would have learned from the first,” said Palmer.

GROWING IN CONFIDENCE

Palmer, like head coach Aaron Lawrence, after the opening game of the season, where they lost 3-1 to defending champions Arnett Gardens, said that the team is one that likes possession of the ball and is now growing in confidence.

Boys’ Town FC head coach Andrew Price said that things just did not go their way, leading to yesterday’s defeat. He said that his side added to its own downfall by not fighting hard enough.

Jamoy Sibblies netted the lone goal of the contest four minutes after the break to give Sandals the three points. They got the chance to double Boys’ Town’s troubles in the 79th minute but captain Delroy Davis failed to capitalise from the penalty spot. Misfortune for Boys’ Town followed six minutes later when substitute Anthony Dawes passed up a chance to equalise after being gifted an empty net.
