The following events took place on November 27 in the years identified:

1965: The British Empire Cancer Campaign for Research has approved a grant amounting to £2,640 to the University of the West Indies for cancer research during 1966. Eighteen important research centres in Britain received grants totaling £813,495 for cancer research and a further £30,900 has been granted to finance cancer research in the Commonweal­th. News of the grants is received in a release from the British Empire Cancer Campaign headquarte­rs in London.

1974: The West Indies wrap up a comfortabl­e victory by 207 runs over India in the first cricket Test in Bangalore, finishing the match three minutes before lunch on the final day. Pacemen Vanburn Holder, Keith Boyce and Andy Roberts share the wickets.

1980: Edward Seaga is confirmed in the Anglican Church in a private service at the Garrison Church, Up Park Camp. The confirmati­on ceremony is performed by Bishop Freddie Reid of Montego Bay, with the assistance of Reverends Herman Spence and Phillip Hart. In attendance at the ceremony, which lasted half an hour, are Mrs Mitsy Seaga, an Anglican, their children, and close relatives and friends.

1985: Solidarity, the new government programme to provide self-employment and training for approximat­ely 10,000 young people annually, is launched by Prime Minister Edward Seaga before a huge crowd at the National Arena. Seaga says that the programme will finance 3,000 projects involving 10,000 young people in 1986. Some 509 of these projects have already been selected from applicatio­ns made.
