THE BUSINESS House Basketball Association (BHBA) hosted its closing and award ceremony for the 2017 season on Wednesday at the Bank of Jamaica’s auditorium in downtown Kingston.

Headed by President Major Clifton Lumsden, the BHBA has been around for 15 years.

“... Over these many years, the number of teams has increased, we have had teams entering, teams not re-entering for various reasons, but we have seen a steady growth in the number of teams,” Lumsden said. “I am very proud that we could have done this very successfully.”

The competition was held inside the National Arena because the stadium courts, which the BHBA had called home for a number of years, was being resurfaced by the Sports Development Foundation.

At the end of the first round, the BHBA executive had negotiated and finalised a deal with the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) to sponsor the costs associated with the normal operations of the National Indoor Sports Centre, after the National Arena became unavailable to complete the season. The play-offs were then rebranded the JPSBHBA Play-offs.

After a very competitive play-offs and finals, which was a best of five, the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ ) emerged champions of Division One, coming from a 0-2 deficit to defeat the National Housing Trust 3-2, with RJRGLEANER, who also won the rally at the beginning of the season, placing third in that division.

In Division Two, Urban Development Corporation (UDC) crushed Conduent, sweeping them 3-0, and Jamaica Money Market Brokers finished third.

Besides the championship trophies, several other awards were handed out, but the two top individual awards for the Most Valuable Player went to Deano Hibbert (UDC) for Division Two and Anthony White (BOJ) for Division One.
