The following events took place on March 3 in the years identified:

1953:

No agreement is reached by the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) and the Magnet Bus Company after a 3-hour conference on a wageincrea­se demand. Agreement is reached on other points in the union’s representa­tions. Final proposals will be made by the BITU on March 4, 1953 to the company on the wage issue. Failing agreement on these, the matter will be reported to the Governor in Executive Council for action under the Essential Services Law. 1970:

Minister of Finance and Planning Edward Seaga meets with the new Yugoslavia Ambassador to Jamaica Lazar Mojsov at the Ministry of Finance and discusses the possibilit­y of a programme of technical assistance being establishe­d between both countries. Seaga specifical­ly asks for assistance in the form of personnel to help the Geological Survey Department to carry out a new threeyear successor project to the Groundwate­r Research Project which is to be carried out with the assistance of the United Nations Developmen­t Programme.

1993:

During the course of last year, 14 individual­s were selected for the Governor General Achievemen­t Award (GGAA). The focus of the GGAA scheme is recognisin­g the importance of social and economic mobility of persons who have started from humble or modest beginnings and have demonstrat­ed commitment and hard work to achieve something of importance in the parish in which they reside.
