Developing rounded students

-

THE OUR Lady of the Angels Preparatory School (OLAPS) is the school of choice as we encourage children to learn, grow, play, and pray to ensure that there is a solid foundation from which right values will be instilled. We endeavour to challenge our children to reach their true potential while acknowledging their right of place and purpose through active involvement and balance.

We place the joy of learning and socialising at the heart of children’s early education experiences with the aim of providing a springboard for the rest of their learning journey.

The OLAPS mission is to provide educational services that allow all children who are nurtured within to experience learning success in order to become conscientious learners and contributing members of our community.

The school was established in 1961 by the Franciscan Fathers of the Our Lady of Angels Church, 75A Molynes Road, Kingston 10. Later that year, it was moved to the present location at 78 Molynes Road. We are richly blessed with strong parental involvement and an active Home & School Association (HSA). Indeed, we are blessed to be one of the few preparatory schools in the Molynes area to have a recreational area that can accommodate a full-size junior football field and a 200m running track. The upgraded facility includes a multipurpose playing surface, an automated irrigation system, an upgraded perimeter wall, and a 200person capacity stadium seating has been the culmination of a productive partnership among school, parents, and benefactors.

GIVEN OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP

The institution also benefited richly from ACE Limited, which donated the gift of resurfacing the school’s netball court. The managing director of Asphalt Concrete Enterprise Limited, Patrick Gordon, who is an OLAPS benefactor, has definitely secured a place in the hearts of the community members of the Our Lady of the Angels Preparatory. It is important that our students are given the opportunity to develop their athletics skills even when they are still learning the ins and outs of sports.

The OLAPS Debating Team are the 2016 runner-up winners in the Burger King Primary and Prep Schools Debating Competition, as well as 2013 champions for the JISA Inter-Prep Netball competition. Our Speech/Drama and Dance Troopers have earned gold, silver, and bronze accolades consistently in the JCDC Arts Festivals. As we have, over the years, groomed and moulded top scholars, we have been awarded first-place accomplishment and top student for the St Andrew region in the Lay Magistrate Essay Competition.

For many years, our track and field team has been in the top 10 ranking in the JISA InterPreparatory Track and Field Competition alongside the cricket team, which has also earned semi-final and top-10 placing. Members of the cricket team have also been part of the All-Island Cricket group and have continued at the secondary level to the Under-16 national cricket team. We also proudly highlight that a few OLAPS track & field members have also consistently represented, nationally.
