Trini Magic bags Caymanas feature

- Ainsley Walters Sunday Gleaner Writer

TRINI MAGIC produced a strong run along the rail inside the last half-furlong, nabbing even-money favourite EDDIE’S PRINCESS close to home in yesterday’s Jamaica Jockeys’ Guild feature race.

Running at odds of 9-1 with non-claiming apprentice Linton Steadman, TRINI MAGIC got a perfect rail run to straighten fourth in the 1400-metre event.

EDDIE’S PRINCESS was making her way home after getting rid of long-time leader LAWS OF THE CODE when TRINI MAGIC came storming on her inside to win the feature by three-quarter length in a time of 1:28.2 for trainer Ryan Darby.

Trainer Enos Brown saddled two winners, 1-5 favourite JASON’S GOLD in the fourth and 2-1 chance, TOP EAGLE, who was awarded the seventh after the disqualification of YOLOVE.

Apprentice Dane Dawkins won the second with evenmoney favourite ROYAL GIRL and closed the 10-race card with 5-1 shot K D FLYER.

Meanwhile, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta’s WITHOUT EXCEPTION, getting a very late prep for next Sunday’s 2000 Guineas, won the 1000metre round first race in 1:00.2.

After disappointing in his last three races, WITHOUT EXCEPTION ran without his customary tongue tie and figure eight, equipment in which he had won his first three starts.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park at the weekend with the 1000 and 2000 Guineas classics scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
