JAMAICA’S SENIOR women’s netball team will be hunting its fifth-straight victory against hosts Australia in today’s top-ofthe-table clash in Pool A at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia, tomorrow morning 6 a.m. (Jamaica time).

The Sunshine Girls, who won the bronze medal in Glasgow, Scotland, four years ago, will enter today’s encounter high on confidence, having dispatched Barbados 76-32 in the last game on Sunday.

Jamaica’s coach Sasher-Gaye Henry told The Gleaner that she is very confident that the team will put on a good showing against the Aussies today.

“We are quite determined and we are quite focused heading into this top-of-the-table clash against Australia,” said Henry. “We know that it is going to be a tough one and we know that it is going to be a game that we have to concentrate a lot,”she said.

“The Australians are fit and they are fast and they will be coming at us, so we just have to prepare and get ready to take on the task at hand,” Henry said. “We have to be sharp and strong and I think it is going to a good matchup, but I am expecting great things from our team.”

The Sunshine Girls have also recorded victories over Fiji, South Africa and Northern Ireland so far, and Henry added that she is pleased with the team’s progression in the tournament.

“I am quite pleased with the team’s performance so far, but there are some days that they don’t play to their true potential like we want them,” said Henry.

“However, I am happy that we are coming together as a group because the players are understanding each other a lot more, so I believe that things can only get better for us for the

remainder of the competition,” she said.

“It is a given that we want to be on that podium spot, but we are not going to underestimate anybody in the competition because all the teams are a threat to us,” Henry stated.
