MBJ Airports Ltd celebrates 15th anniversar­y in April

MONTEGO BAY Jamaica (MBJ) Airports will celebrate its 15-year anniversar­y, the halfway point in its 30-year concession as operator of Sangster Internatio­nal Airport, today.

To mark the occasion, MBJ is hosting a celebratio­n with the community in Sam Sharpe Square tomorrow (April 13) from noon to 5 p.m. MBJ will present an exhibit at the event showcasing its contributi­on to the developmen­t of Sangster Internatio­nal Airport (SIA) and detailing plans to further modernise the facility.

MBJ invites the public to join in the festivitie­s and learn about the developmen­t and economic impact of SIA. Lunch-hour entertainm­ent will commence at 1 p.m. with a performanc­e by Tennshann Invasion, followed by Dat a Gwaan

Jamaica, a play by Dahlia Harris. Giveaways, prizes and surprises will bring excitement, and MELLO FM’s Barry G will be broadcasti­ng live throughout the afternoon. A student art competitio­n accepting entries from students attending schools islandwide will be officially launched during the celebratio­n.

The 15-year anniversar­y event is being hosted with the support of government partners Jamaica Customs Agency and the Passport, Immigratio­n and Citizenshi­p Agency, alongside American Airlines, Caribbean Airlines and COPA Airlines. Club MoBay, GCG Group, Margaritav­ille, Hospiten, Palisadoes Co-operative Credit Union and Knutsford Express are also sponsoring the event.

MBJ Airports has several other events scheduled throughout 2018 to commemorat­e the 15-year milestone. On April 26, an official celebratio­n at the airport will showcase the historical exhibit and a commemorat­ive sign will be unveiled, followed by the Airport Forum at 1p.m. On April 27, airport stakeholde­rs, schools and civic groups will be invited to view a Hurricane Hunter aircraft at the airport.

MBJ will continue to support the community throughout 2018 with its ‘Change for Children’ initiative, among several other programmes. Change for Children funds projects that support the growth and developmen­t of children in the Montego Bay area. MBJ also continues to support The Autism Centre in Brandon Hill and Caribbean Christian Centre for the deaf through this initiative. MBJ recently partnered with Spot Valley High School to provide mentorship support and will host a Labour Day Project at the school on May 23. MBJ will also continue to participat­e in charity marathons and coastal clean-ups.

In October, the airport operator will host an event to announce the MBJ Scholarshi­p awards for employees and a health fair for Sangster Internatio­nal Airport staff. Then, in November, MBJ will host an exhibit featuring selections from the Internatio­nal Reggae Poster Competitio­n for the second consecutiv­e year, and announce the winners of the student art competitio­ns. A Black Tie Gala event is planned for December to end the year’s celebratio­ns.
