Symposium and Exposition was a big success – BPIAJ
GLORIA HENRY, president of the of the Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica (BPIAJ), says the inaugural staging of the two-day Symposium and Exposition, which explored the potential to expand the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, was a big success.
In an interview with The Gleaner on the final day of the event, which took place at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James, Henry said that her organisation had achieved much more than its intended goal.
“The feedback has been great, from even the overseas speakers, presenters and buyers. I think we have managed to deliver the kind of rich, detailed content that needs to be shared a lot more regarding the industry,” reported Henry.
“We have managed to share a lot of knowledge but, more importantly, we have started the muchneeded discussion about critical things like where we need to go to move up the value chain and to diversify the portfolio of work that is done here,” she added.
With some 60 BPO establishments operating in Jamaica, providing a wide range of services and employing more than 26,000 persons, Henry said the event was supported by all the local operators and several from overseas.
“All the big BPO companies, the local ones, supported us ... all of them, and the big ones from overseas, they were all supportive as well,” said Henry. “You saw Alorica, Tele Performance, Conduent. You saw PSI and you saw Sutherland Global Services, so they have all been here and were all very supportive.”
The BPIAJ president said that the event, which was staged at a cost of approximately J$30 million, will be held annually. Its 2019 edition will be staged in Kingston.
