LAST TUESDAY night, the curtain came down, signalling the end to an exciting season of Schools’ Challenge Quiz. The muchanticipated final between St Jago High and Campion College had spectators on the edge of their seats.

Viewers at home and those who were present at TVJ’s studio and courtyard were treated to a bit of entertainment from Agent Sasco, who performed his latest single, Winning Right Now. Supporters from both teams were confident that their team would win this year’s championship at the end of the contest.

St Jago High was on the hunt to win their fifth championship, while Campion College planned on lifting the championship trophy the third time around. After a few interviews and words from the sponsors, the moment finally arrived for the big showdown. St Jago won the toss and sent Campion to play first. The opening round of the match started at a fair pace, with both teams doing well in answer the questions posed to them by quiz master Jean-Paul Menou. It was St Jago who took a one-point lead at the end of the first round with seven points, while Campion secured six points.

Much speeding did take place in the speed section, with both teams answering as many questions as they possibly could, bringing their scores into the 20s. By this time, the table had been turned, with Campion out in front at the end of the round with 29 points, ahead of St Jago’s 27 points.

The stage was now set for the final buzzer section of the 2018 season of Schools’ Challenge Quiz. The nerves began to show on the faces of some supporters, the atmosphere became more intense and with this, the deciding moment in the contest began. Both teams had their turn at the buzzers, but it was Campion who managed to secure enough correct answers during this section. Even though St Jago fought back, they could not catch up to the ‘red is strong’ team from Hope Road. After four minutes, the final bell rang and Campion College was declared champions of the 2018 Schools’ Challenge Quiz.

This Campion College win is the first for the school who was in the finals for the third time. This win also brings the number of schools to have won the championship over the years to 14.
