Swans Charity Golf Tournament to aid Care Centre

-

THE ST Hugh’s Old Girls‘ Association will stage its third annual ‘Tee Off with the Swans’ Charity Golf Tournament on May 26 at the Constant Spring Golf Club in Kingston, with the aim of raising much-needed funds to construct a new care centre at the high school on Leinster Road in Cross Roads, Kingston.

The school, which was founded in 1899 as an experiment in the education of young women, has been wanting to build a new care centre for some time, as the current facility is in a state of disrepair.

They are hoping to be able to break ground for the new facility in time to celebrate their 120th anniversary in 2019.

According to Diane Thompson-Clarke of the St Hugh’s Old Girls‘ Association, the target is to raise $1 million from the golf tournament, endorsements, and sponsorship.

WORTHY CAUSE

“This is our third year running, and the objective is to help raise funds to construct the care centre that will house the guidance counselling department, a nurse’s station, as well as provide shortterm care and assistance to girls who are having specific challenges,”she said.

She urged golfers from all across the island to turn out in support of the worthy cause.

“If you are a golfer – anybody islandwide – we ask the people from Mandeville to Negril, from Negril Point to Morant Point to come out and support the tournament at the Constant Spring Golf Club,” she said.

The 18-hole tournament will be played in the Stableford format, and participants will compete in the categories of men, men senior, and supersenior ladies, as well as a junior category for boys and girls of ages 11-17.

The $4,000 entry fee covers a continental breakfast and cocktails.

David Mais has been appointed tournament director.
