Naggo Head hold slim lead
DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Naggo Head Primary hold a slim threepoint lead over their rivals going into today’s third day of the fourday Insports Primary School Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
After three finals, the Floyd Coke-coached Naggo Head are on top with 21 points, followed by Portsmouth and Lyssons on 18 each. They are followed by Harbour View, 16; Rousseau, 11; Mineral Heights, six; Port Morant, five; and St Patrick’s, four.
Coke said that he is very pleased with his school’s outings at the championships so far.
“This has been the best ever showing after two days for us,” the Naggo Head coach said yesterday.
“We had our problems like anybody else today, but we are pleased with the results, and we are hoping for a much better showing on the third day,” Coke added.
Portmouth were the outstanding school yesterday as they won two of the three finals.
FIRST WIN
Tori-Ann Anderson gave Portsmouth their first victory when she won the girls’ high jump open with a leap of 1.43m ahead of Naggo Head’s Kristian Watson (1.40m) and Shanequa Williams of Harbour View, 1.35m.
Jadan Campbell captured Portmouth’s second gold of the championships when he won the long jump open for boys with a mark of 5.10m.
Naggo Head’s Matthew Thomas was second with 5.10m, while third went to Hubert Foster (4.90m) of Rousseau.
Lysson’s Kecia King captured the gold medal in the girls’ cricket ball open with a throw of 42.75m. Naggo Head’s Mishauna Henry, 41.53m, was second, while Mineral Height’s Calecia DaCosta was third with 39.96m.
