MoBay City Run participan­ts awarded millions in prizes

PARTICIPAN­TS OF the fifth anniversar­y MoBay City Run took home prizes valued at more than $1.5 million on Sunday. The presentati­ons were held at the Old Hospital Park, Gloucester Avenue, in Montego Bay.

The prizes ranged from television sets, microwave ovens, food processors, blenders, Samsung tablets, cellular phones, and DVD players from sponsors Courts; JetBlue Travel certificat­es, getaway vacations at several of the island’s resorts; gift packages from Fontana Pharmacy; dinners; entry to world-renowned attraction­s; and cash prizes from Top Mart. Participan­ts went home exhilarate­d.

The biggest winner was RIU Resorts, which copped the Corporate Championsh­ip plaque, having entered almost 700 runners and walkers in the 10K/5K competitio­n, which moved the main section of its route from downtown Montego Bay to the Howard Cooke Boulevard.

AWARDS AND PRIZES

A beaming Frank Sondern, general manager of the top placed resort, said his aim was to get to 700. The team won a 32inch television, a weekend for two at Couples, a DVD player and blender.

The Courts team earned second place with some 250 participan­ts, winning a plaque, a weekend for two at Melia Braco, and dinner at Margaritav­ille; while Scotiabank, one of the most consistent groups, with 200 entries, copped third place, taking home a day pass for two at Couples Resorts and a food processor, courtesy of Courts.

Both male and female 10K and 5K winners Karlene Blagrove, Oshane Archibald, Garfield Gordon and Kelly-Ann Beckford won JetBlue travel certificat­es, cash from Top Mart, vacations at hotels such as Sandy Haven and Ten Sing Pen, Negril, and dinners at Half Moon and Mystic India.

The run’s organisers staged a series of social media challenges, where several prizes were won, courtesy of Radio Shack, Sea Gardens Resort, Knutsford Express and JetBlue.

Other sponsors who provided prizes included Hyatt Ziva and Zilara, which also won the First Corporate Group to Register plaque, Royalton, RIU, Chukka and Rainforest Seafoods.

MoBay City Run is held annually to raise funds for struggling university students.
