We have much to celebrate

IAM pleased to say that I have been serving the Public Sector Employees Co-operative Credit Union (PSECCU) for over 26 years in the following capacities; 1990-1992 – vice-president, board of directors 1992-2012 – treasurer/ managing director

On May 14, 2018, we will reach a milestone in the history of the PSECCU – 50 years of outstanding service to our members. For 50 years, our members have been able to rely on us to be there for major financial decisions, and as we look to the future, we remain devoted to serving our members and our communities.

We have many milestones and achievements to celebrate. We have grown and developed in so many ways since our inception in 1968 as the Jamaica Special Constabulary Co-operative Credit Union Ltd to the National Security Employees Co-operative Credit Union Ltd in July 2014 and most recently to the PSECCU Ltd, on October 3, 2017.

Throughout my tenure, I have seen exceptional growth and developments over our 50year history. We came from humble beginnings. Our credit union was founded at Up Park Camp in a board cubicle, and I am pleased to report that the PSECCU’s assets have grown to $2.1 billion, and our credit union, which began with 70 members, has grown to over 8,000 members at present.

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reflect on our accomplishments ,which have allowed us to rise as a leader within the credit union movement and the financial services industry. We have accomplished many milestones and changes in the last 50 years, including changing our name twice, but one thing remains the same: we exist to serve our members in a way that is altogether different from other financial institutions.

Today, our branch network has us in four parishes in Jamaica, namely, Kingston and St Andrew where our head office is located; St Mary; St James; and Manchester.

Throughout our 50 years, we have focused extensively on product development by providing our members with the best in value and convenience, and we are fortunate to be where we are through the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of our members along the way.

While we are proud of where we are coming from, we are steadfast and focused on where we are going, and we look forward to continuing to provide innovative products and services, excellent member service, and working together with our members to become stronger than ever.

The reputation that we have earned as a service provider is well-deserved as we have been relentless in our pursuit to become the best in the financial industry. Our vision for the future is to create value for our members by offering competitive interest rates on all our products and services, to become their financial partners throughout their lives, and to adopt innovative technologies, which will make the member experience seamless and establish meaningful relationships where members are more than just ‘an account holder’. There’s no doubt in my mind that we will face challenges, but I firmly believe that we will be able to overcome these.

I am so proud to be part of this team, and as we anticipate what’s in store for PSECCU, I want to thank all of our members, board of directors, committees, employees, and business associates along the way for your dedication and support. We could not have done it without you, and we appreciate all the ways that you have helped to shape our history and look forward to seeing where we go next.
