Welcome Kiwanians and their guests to our tourism capital

-

FOR THE very first time, the city of Montego Bay will play host to the Kiwanis Eastern Canada and the Caribbean District Convention. During May 17-19, our work and achievement as a district will be celebrated with more than 500 Kiwanians and guests from 18 countries. I am pleased as governor of the district to welcome Kiwanians and their guests to our tourism capital.

Kiwanis district conventions are held annually to elect new leaders and to educate, engage and empower our members to be better Kiwanians in our mission of serving the children of the world. Worldwide, the Kiwanis movement continues to save lives through strategic partnerships with organisations like UNICEF. As at the end of January 2018, Kiwanians has raised approximately US$110 million in cash and pledges to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus around the world.

Here in Jamaica, the Kiwanis movement has flourished for 54 years, and there are more than 63 clubs across the island. Every day, members dedicate their time, talent and treasure to plan and execute projects to help children and the less fortunate. In February, I had the pleasure of visiting the Bustamante Hospital for Children to have a first-hand look at some of the amazing work Kiwanians do with the children. It made me very proud to be a Jamaican Kiwanian.

So as you learn and fellowship over the next few days, take some time to enjoy the culture and beauty of Jamaica!

Welcome to my island home! One Love.

ROBERT ‘BOBBY’ MOO YOUNG Governor 2017-2018 Eastern Canada & Caribbean District Kiwanis International
