Celebrate with humility

-

AS PRESIDENT of this great and progressive institution, I feel very privileged and delighted to be writing this message as the Public Sector Employees Cooperative Credit Union Limited celebrates 50 years. This is indeed a special time in our company’s history as we celebrate with humility, giving God thanks for his mercies.

The Chinese proverb is very relevant to us; it speaks to the journey of a thousand miles which must begin with a single step. That single step was made way back in 1968, hence the last five decades have seen us building on a branch through SHEER, CARE and CONCERN for our fellow men. This has indeed been a remarkable and fulfilling journey; one that we must all be proud of and which must cause us to pause, applause, recognize and celebrate. Through God’s grace and mercy, our visionaries has steered us through many treacherous waters into a path of financial health and security.

REFLECTING

It is hard to believe that it has been 50 years. Who could have predicted that a little more than an idea and the involvement of a few men would have blossomed, survived and evolved to us now celebrating 50 years of dedicated and quality service to our fellow men and becoming a financial institution to be reckoned with. We were tiny at the beginning. Some would even say our survival is a tribute to our hard work. I would like to think that our 50 years of success can be attributed to a meticulous commitment to core values: Our commitment to our employees and their families and most significantly, our commitment to the satisfaction of our members.

REMAINING TRUE

In fact, it is you, you our valued members that have remained true, committed and supportive of our every move. We must pause to thank you all for the trust you have placed in us and for your business. Your continued investment has been the catalyst that has caused us to navigate the treacherous waters of financial competition, economic transformation and the liberalization that have taken place of the entire Credit Union movement.

It is indeed a movement and it is quite evident that we

have not stood still. We have made many moves, hence, thanks to the Cleveland Messiah’s Vision, we are not tenants of our headquarters but still full-fledged owners.

We have established a track record of doing the impossible. At the heart of these accomplishments is a great deal of teamwork, sacrifice, dedication and a willingness to take risks to the benefit of our members. However, now is not the time to rest. Although we may be tempted to indulge in a self-congratulating moment, we must remain mindful that the world is ever-changing. We must celebrate and, importantly, we must recognise those whose visionary leadership and unquestionable integrity have placed us on a platform for continued growth with our members at the centre of our every strategy.

SELFLESS CONTRIBUTION

As we recognise all those who have given selfless contribution to growth, permit me to single out for special recognition, our current Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Osmond Bromfield. He has served the Credit Union for more than 30 years in various positions, such as: Supervisory Committee member, treasurer and now CEO. His appointment as treasurer in 1992 has steered us to exponential growth and expansion, as under his tenure, the credit union’s assets moved from $5 million to more than $1 billion and to date, our assets are over $2 billion.

Today, we operate out of four branches. Our head offices, which is located at 9 Union Square, Kingston 5, Our Area 1 branch at 66 Claude Clarke Avenue, St James, Area 2 branch at Shop 10, Pompano Shopping Complex, Tower Isle, St Mary, and Area 3 branch, 9 Ward Avenue, Mandeville, Manchester, for greater convenience and synergy for our valued members. As we take on the mantle of catering to the entire public-sector family, we will continue to work hard and invest in this movement. We enter this new phase with great excitement as we anticipate what lies ahead in the charting of another 50 years.

Despite the many changes and, at times, the very unpredictable environment, the indomitable will of the past, the passion of offering quality service to our valued members, coupled with your support and trust, will be the foundation upon which we will chart another 50 years.

To all our employees, my colleague board of directors, Credit and Supervisory Committee, stakeholders and friends – I thank you for your continued commitment, support and trust. Let us move forward in faith, let us continue to innovate, let us continue to always find new ways of growing our credit union and building wealth and security for our members. CALVIN ALLEN President

Public Sector Employees Co-op Credit Union Ltd

Despite the many changes ... the indomitable will of the past, the passion of offering quality service to our valued members, coupled with your support and trust will be the foundation upon which we will chart another 50 years.
