Improving the lives of the disadvantaged in our communities
KIWANIANS ACROSS western Jamaica continue to implement projects to improve the lives of the disadvantaged in our communities. From building playgrounds, to health fairs, to planning projects to bring awareness to diabetes and cancer, and implementing reading projects in basic schools, clubs are impacting children and the less fortunate. LG Dwight Lawrence shared that health and wellness has been a focus for clubs in his division, with many important signature projects already done in the 20172018 year.
The Kiwanis Club of Providence hosted its eighth Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run with more than 500 patrons converging at the Fairview Park in Montego Bay on Sunday, October 30, 2017, to participate in the annual event under the theme ‘Pink with a Purpose’. As it was, a sea of pink walkers and runners from all over the island made their commitment to assisting in bringing awareness to the many families, friends, and individuals that have been affected by the deadly disease.
FAMILY AFFAIR
President Coleen Lawson Taylor, in bringing greetings, commented that she was elated by the turnout and pledged the club’s continued commitment to support those fighting cancer after testimonials by cancer survivors.
A float with live music, which was an added attraction this year, created a booster for the many walkers and runners. The event was truly a family affair enjoyed by several participants. The Kiwanis visibility was very high, and individuals were kept hydrated throughout the morning with water, juice, and other refreshments provided by various sponsors.
The club extends heartfelt congratulations to all the trophy and medals winners and thanks many sponsors, including title sponsor Bay West Wellness, for their generosity in making the event a success.
