1972:the Edna Manley leaves
island for Philadelphia to attend the opening of an exhibition of paintings by Jamaican artists and a reception in her honour. Both events are organised by David Berger, an eminent American attorney, who is a former president of the Pennsylvania Law Association. Berger, who is also a noted Philadelphia patron of the arts, is a personal friend of the late Norman Manley.
1983:The Jamaica Mutual Life Assurance Society is to start construction within another three weeks on its latest project, the Atrium, an office building complex at 32 Trafalgar Road, corner of Trafalgar and Garelli, at a cost of $20 million. The gross development value on completion is $34 million. In addition, within another 18 months the society will be constructing two housing developments at 4-12 Renfrew Road and 13A Norbrook Road, a mini office warehouse complex on Half-Way Tree Road and a medical complex, adjoining the head office on Oxford Road, at a total cost of $85 million. Plans for these projects are announced by Edward Ashenheim, chairman of the Investment, Finance and Property Sub-Committee and Dennis Morgan, assistant vice president of investments, yesterday at the company’s head office on Oxford Road.
1994:are Diplomatic relations established by Jamaica with Belarus, a former member of the Soviet Union and now a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
