1998:Jamaica, Bank of Now Scotia
the island’s leading bank, unveils its latest attempt to expand its growing financial services operation with the launch of a new life insurance product. A long-term tax-free savings plan combined with life insurance needs and high returns – that’s what Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company offers with its flagship product, ScotiaMint. The move “should not be viewed as entering life insurance per se but more like providing another opportunity for long-term secured investment/savings”, according to the bank’s Managing Director William Clarke. Clarke added, “Our decision to enter the life insurance market is made to allow us to compete in the tax-advantaged, longer-term savings and securities market in Jamaica. “
