Sagicor Bank launches mobile point-of-sale machine, SWYPE
SAGICOR BANK will fully roll out its mobile point-of-sale machine, SWYPE, today.
The device is a compact, portable card reader that works with Android phones and tablets to accept debit and credit card payments.
Sagicor Bank said that its SWYPE will see both customers and business owners significantly benefiting from the ease and convenience of completing a sales transaction.
Sagicor Bank CEO Chorvelle Johnson noted that the world is becoming ‘cashless’ and more persons are using electronic payment systems as a convenient and safer way to do business.
“As we become even more modernised and technological advancements improve, Sagicor Bank remains on top of its game with respect to providing products and services of the highest quality for our clients,” Johnson said.
Johnson added that with SWYPE, Sagicor Bank has significantly increased the earning potential of small, medium and micro businesses, as they are no longer limited to only cash transactions. She further shared an example of a fruit vendor who has the potential to earn so much more with SWYPE, as many times persons are on the go and may not have the cash readily available, but can easily swipe their card.
This, she said, would be a winwin for both customer and vendor as the customer’s need is fulfilled and the vendor gains additional income.
CASHLESS PAYMENT
Sabrina Cooper, vice-president with responsibility for payments at Sagicor Bank, noted that the bank was seeking to make transactions less cumbersome, enabling a cashless payment system that is more affordable, secure and easy to set up.
“Sagicor Bank is committed to always finding new and innovative ways to improve our clients’ lives and with the launch of SWYPE, not only are we having a direct impact on the growth and development of the SME sector, we are also helping to build the economy,” Cooper said.
The machine, much like a pointof-sale device, accepts MasterCard, Visa and Multilink cards. It connects via pairing with Android devices and works simultaneously with a free application available for download in the Google Play Store.
