Bloody bullseye on returnees’ heads

-

IAM a Jamaican citizen who has returned to assist in my parents’ retirement and return to Jamaica. We have experienced two acts of violence, one in the form of a threat, and the other a violent ambush on our farm. Luckily, the assailant was unsuccessful in committing murder but caused serious bodily harm.

Both incidents, the latter in particular, were reported to the police. The latter report was checked last Friday on the day of the discovery of the murdered couple. The assault was reported about a month ago. Since then, the police have not arrested the suspect despite several sightings and reports of his presence in one of our residential properties.

I have called the police four to five times to check, assist and find out the latest on the report filed. The San San police in Portland have not arrested the man, claiming they can’t find him.

As a member of the Jamaican diaspora, businessman, caretaker of family farmland and responsible for the wellbeing of the surviving parent, I find the attack troubling. The lack of progress by the San San police is of great concern.

The investigation dysfunction appears to be the symptom of a failed state. Law and order in Jamaican society is in decline, from top to bottom. There needs to be a socio-economic purge.

These murders are among the many hundreds of others recorded every year. Social institutions were put in place to safeguard life, liberty and the pursuit of prosperity.
