JCCUL president now heads apex body for regional credit union leagues

WINSTON FLETCHER, president of the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League (JCCUL), is the new president of the Jamaica Confederat­ion of Credit Unions (CCCU), the apex body for credit union leagues in the Caribbean. His election took place this month at the 61st Annual Internatio­nal Convention of the CCCU, in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Fletcher succeeded Hally O.D. Haynes from the Barbados Co-operative and Credit Union League, who became president of CCCU in June 2017.

President Fletcher is a volunteer whose involvemen­t in the cooperativ­e movement goes back many years and he has served JCCUL and its affiliated organisati­ons in such capacities as:

President and vicepresid­ent of the JCCUL;

Chairman of the Credit Union Fund Management Company;

Director of Quality Network Limited

Director of EduCom Cooperativ­e Credit Union Limited

Past president of St Catherine Co-operative Credit Union Limited which merged with EduCom.

Fletcher is a trained profession­al with proven leadership and managerial competence, developed from over 25 years of senior management appointmen­ts in the Jamaican private and public sectors.

His career traverses the discipline­s of engineerin­g, operations management, education and training. He has distinct competenci­es in leadership and strategic management, talent management, negotiatin­g, and behavioura­l interviewi­ng, and has been described as a contempora­ry thinker and astute profession­al. He has also added to his wide repertoire of skills, facilitato­r and presenter at internatio­nal conference­s, in technical vocation education and training (TVET) and governance and leadership of financial cooperativ­es. He recently retired from the HEART Trust/NTA, Jamaica’s principal institutio­n for the promotion and facilitati­on of TVET, Fletcher is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica, with certificat­ion in management and engineerin­g as follows:

MBA – Internatio­nal Business – UWI

BSc (Hons) – Management Studies – UWI Diploma – Industrial Management – UTech

Full Technologi­cal Certificat­e – Electrical/Electronic Engineerin­g – UTech An avid sports enthusiast, particular­ly of cricket, football, and track and field, Fletcher is married with three children.

The credit unions of Jamaica congratula­te this phenomenal volunteer and hope he will have a successful tenure.
