Cycling president hails inaugural retreat
JAMAICA CYCLING Federation (JCF) president, Joylene Griffiths, has hailed the federation’s first ever retreat held at and sponsored by the Spanish Court hotel last Saturday.
Griffiths said club administrators and federation executives, for the first time, got the chance to meet and chart a way forward for the organisation.
She revealed that presentations were made, useful information provided and shared, committees formed and the federation’s new website highlighted.
“We had a very good retreat on Saturday at the Spanish Court hotel, our sponsors for that (retreat). We called out the club presidents and vice presidents and had a retreat for the first
time ever in our history,’ she told The Gleaner.
She noted that clubs came in from as far as Montego Bay, St Catherine, Clarendon and Kingston and at the well attended get-together members got a peek into the JCF’s future ambitions, as they were informed about the future plans and the JCF’s vision. But we just looked at it and the evaluation is that it (retreat) was valuable, beneficial and should become an annual thing,” she added.
Hotelier Chris Issa spoke and shared some ideas how tourism can be linked with cycling. We also had Allied Insurance talk to us about the insurance coverage that is available free to athletes through the ministry. Clubs got an idea how to share their plans with each other and make presentations, so each club knows what the other is doing and are sharing best practices,” she told The Gleaner.
“We have formed some committees and we have asked them (members) to join these groupings as we are expanding the committees outside of the executives. This would allow people to gather and bring their expertise for sponsorship and communication as we are spreading the work that has to be done among the leaders of the clubs.
“So it was extremely fruitful. It’s the first time they (clubs) got a chance to interact with the federation and the executives. And now if they go to our new website
www.jamaicacycling.com they can register for the national championship and apply for licenses online,” she added.
