Appropriate response, FLA

-

THE EDITOR, Sir:

LATE MONDAY afternoon, I was bombarded with forwarded messages and social media posts about a fracas of sorts at one Corporate Area apartment complex. Initially, what seemed like utter chaos in the beginning took a turn for the worse when one man apparently lunged at a licensed firearm holder in an attempt to disarm him. How absolutely foolish! As expected, a scuffle ensued, and within a few seconds, a gunshot. The man that attempted to disarm the firearm holder was shot.

Following the incident, the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) has come out in support of the firearm holder, highlighting that he was well within his right to defend himself against anyone trying to disarm him. I support this wholeheartedly. Licensed firearm holders reserve the right to defend themselves under threat, whether it be from criminal elements or heavyhanded private security teams. This is the right response from the FLA.

This incident, and the subsequent response by the licensing authority, shows that the agency is now responsive and active, that they understand and acknowledge that every situation requires a separate analysis, investigation, and response. I’m proud to see the FLA not only regulating and policing firearm holders, but supporting them as well. I appreciate this swift and decisive action!
