Watch out for ulterior motives

-

COUNTLESS BREAKUPS and fights have been caused by gossip!

Vividly, I recall an incident in which a relative who was a faithful, loyal wife was drawn over the coals by her husband for alleged unfaithfulness. The gossiper, who apparently had a crush on the woman’s husband, met him one day and filled his head with a bunch of lies, which he swallowed hook, line and sinker. The marriage was placed under severe stress and was only restored by a miracle.

Couples, it’s a dangerous practice to entertain negative comments about your partners. And it doesn’t matter if you are even unhappily married. It often makes matters worse. Many times an ulterior motive is involved.

JEALOUSY

A student nurse was advised by her batchmate, confidante and friend to break off a relationship with her African fiancé because he was too “black and ugly” for her. One month after they broke up, this confidante was going around with the “black and ugly” student doctor. That’s ugly and disgusting!

Balancing my reasoning, at times, it may be wise to listen to the negative comments about others because they might be protecting you from a lot of misery down the road, but it’s always wise to do your own due diligence, just in case ulterior motives are involved. Know the difference.

Until next time, remember, oppression breeds depression and depression gives birth to much of the frustration and aggression prevalent in our society. Don’t oppress.
