Regional data security conference for Jamaica
WITH THE reins tightening on big technology companies and countries to address security and privacy concerns on data, the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Jamaica in partnership with member company, e-Biz ProTrain, will be hosting its first ‘Regional Data Security Conference’ in the island.
The conference will be held under the theme: ‘Your Data Your Rights; What Individuals and Companies should know’.
It will address a number of data-security concerns, as well as providing information and solutions regarding the activation of the General Data Protection Regulation in the European Union.
According to CEO of AMCHAM Jamaica Gail Abrahams, “The conference is timely as it takes to the fore the issue of data security across the region, while providing key insights on what individuals and companies, should know to protect themselves and their investments.”
Abrahams added that the conference will also address the current policies and legislation on data security.
Carolien Aikman, director at e-Biz ProTrain, agreed with Abrahams as she argued that, “In this digital age, it is incumbent on everyone to arm themselves with the requisite information.”
Aikman said the conference will not be a talk shop but a working one which will address the real data issues and provide workable and realistic solutions.
To date, several local and international speakers have been confirmed, including Facebook’s Irene Quinonez; Google’s Gabriel Recalde; data protection and privacy experts out of the international law firm Sidley Austin, Ed McNicholas and Dean Forbes; international trade consultant Jan Remy, and Grace Lindo, partner in Nunes, Scholefield, DeLeon & Co.
ICT4D consultant Carlton Samuels has also been confirmed for the conference which will run from September 12-13.
