Thomas replaces Gordon at Lennon
COACH BYJEON Thomas, who led Clarendon College (CC) to the Ben Francis Cup last year, has been confirmed as Merron Gordon’s replacement as head coach at Lennon High School.
Gordon has been named new head coach of 2007 daCosta Cup champions Garvey Maceo High School.
Thomas missed out on the chance to add the daCosta Cup to his résumé’ last season when CC went down 2-1 to Rusea’s High School in the final at the
Montego Bay Sports Complex. He told The Gleaner he is optimistic about replicating a season like 2016, when Lennon took the Ben Francis Cup up the Mocho hill.
“Yeah, definitely, we are looking to put up a strong performance this season. We are going to try our best to see how far we can finish this year. Hopefully, that means victory in some way,”Thomas said.
“Yes, we have about four players from that (2016) season remaining. We also have a good core of young players because the Under-16 team has been doing well over the past two years,” he added.
Thomas, who said there was no bad blood between him and his alma mater, was asked if he had a good relationship with the school prior to the move. He said that they have didn’t really share much of a relationship, but “it just happened”.
“I wouldn’t say so, because I used to attend Clarendon College, but I guess sometimes, things just happen. I got a phone call, and I sat and thought about it for about a week then made the decision,” said Thomas.
