Over 30 students receive scholarships from JPS & Partners
OVER 30 of Jamaica’s brilliant youngsters recently received an educational jump start into high school and one individual into university, courtesy of JPS & Partners Co-operative Credit Union.
An awards ceremony, held at the Knutsford Court Hotel in St Andrew, served to honour the boys and girls for outstanding performance in this year’s Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), which was held in March.
Dominique Bhoorasignh, who copped a 99.4 per cent average in the GSAT, walked away with the 2018 Carl Little Scholarship, which will see him receiving $50,000 for five years throughout high school, once he maintains an average of at least 80 per cent.
Leah Wilson was selected JPS & Partners’ youngest youth saver, who met challenging criteria set out by the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League.
Aisha Martin, Aniska Rowe, and Rohan Thompson, from the Central Branch Primary and Junior High School, were awarded special bursaries, which should assist them during their time in high school.
The Albert ‘Bertie’ Morris Scholarship went to Abigail Nankoon, who was given a financial boost towards completing a bachelor’s degree in basic medical sciences at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
“I live by the philosophy that when life throws you lemons, make lemonade,” Nankoon told the gathering. “This opportunity bestowed on me today is a lemon that I will use to make my lemonade. I am honoured. Thank you for this tremendous opportunity, which will allow me to complete my degree. As I complete my tertiary-level education, receiving and keeping this scholarship is an inspiration and motivator for me to always strive for excellence.”
