Jamaican Teas is HACCP certified

-

JAMAICAN TEAS Limited has been awarded the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Certification, which is the internationally recognised risk-based system for managing food safety.

It provides the general principles of food hygiene from primary production through final consumption, highlighting key hygiene controls at each stage.

Built on the foundation of effective prerequisite programmes such as training, pest control and sanitation, HACCP applies control measures to prevent, eliminate, or reduce significant hazards to an acceptable level. The HACCP is a critical standard for food-producing businesses in the export market as a lack of certification could constitute non-tariff barriers to exports.

The Ministry of Industry Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries has endorsed the HACCP Certification as an effective way to propel Jamaican food-processing businesses in the export market as it increases marketability and accountability.

The Jamaican Teas line of products include its Tetley and Caribbean Dreams brands. The HACCP Certificate was conferred on the company on May 24, under the governing body of the NSF International (Costa Rica), a global public health and safety organisation whose mission is the development of public health standards and certification programmes that help protect the world’s food, water, consumer products, and environment.

VERY IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENT

John Mahfood, chief executive officer and export director of the company, noted, “This is a very important achievement that only a handful of companies in Jamaica have attained.”

He also pointed out that “this award ensures that our consumers can gain even more confidence in our products and allows us to continue to export to the US and other major markets”.

Jamaican Teas Limited prides itself on researching and utilising indigenous Jamaican crops in its ongoing objective to bring revolutionary and innovative products to the marketplace. In keeping with its growing export drive, the company has made food safety its trademark and has won several national awards, including Champion Exporter 2013, JEA Fantastic 50 Exporters Award 2016, National Quality Award 2015-16 for manufacturing, and the 2016 Model Exporter and Pauline Gray Award.

In 2017, Jamaican Teas also obtained OK Kosher Certification for its Caribbean Dreams line of Herbal Teas.

Jamaican Teas, a virtual household name locally, is a premier choice for many Jamaicans here and abroad, as well as many in Caribbean territories and North American and UK markets.

The Jamaican Teas Group includes Jamaican Teas Limited, manufacturer of the Tetley and Caribbean Dreams-branded teas and grocery items.

Jamaican Teas Limited was founded in Jamaica in 1967 and initially produced only black tea under the Tetley brand, as well as providing contract manufacturing arrangements.
