CDF Committee members back on the job

Despite holiday break

TWENTY-FOUR PROJECTS valued at more than $20 million were approved during a special sitting of Parliament’s Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee yesterday.

With members of parliament off on their traditional summer break, Chairman Everald Warmington was joined by members Denise Daley, Floyd Green and Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, for a smooth, almost hourlong sitting.

There is nothing in the Standing Orders of Parliament preventing any committee from meeting while the House is on holiday, and Warmington noted that the majority of the requests were for additional funding for projects that were already improved.

These included projects for disaster mitigation, education assistance, sports development and social housing.

The CDF was established in 2008 to provide members of parliament with financial resources to execute approved social and economic programmes within their constituencies.

This year, the Government has budgeted $20 million per constituency for the CDF.
